Although my intentions were to pay a little more attention to my blog site, and to continue writing in general during my summer vacation from school, however, that hasn’t quite happened. Other than this year flying by so fast, I have hit a few speed bumps from March until present. Fortunately, the light at the end of the tunnel is bright!
Lately, my craving to write has grown stronger. I started out with this blog site as a way to practice and improve my writing skills in preparation for some classes I was taking at school. At the beginning of the year I was so excited about writing that I registered with Yahoo, as an associated content contributor, as well as with WordPress for their “Post a Day 2011” challenge, however, as you can see, I have been less than successful.
Now, with my schedule back in order, I plan on continuing where I left off. This time around, however, I hope to make it not only consistent, but successful as well!
Since it was such a nice day out today, I decided to take a drive to Disneyland for a few hours. Other than laundry and homework, I didn’t have much to do.
There must be some changes going on considering they had large portions south and north of Main Street blocked off. I wasn’t able to access the fire house, nor the stores to the southwest side of Main Street. Today was my 7th time visiting since I got my pass in November, and for the first time Splash Mountain and It’s a Small World were closed as well.
I did, however, have the opportunity to go on the Haunted Mansion. Other than seeing it all dressed up for Christmas, it was closed the last time I went while they were removing the decorations. Prior to getting my pass, it has been about 15 years since I have visited the Disneyland Park so I was looking forward to checking out the Haunted Mansion as it normally is throughout the year. Going through the Haunted Mansion was pretty much as I remember it too. Although I am sure there have been some changes to it, as I can’t imagine it being the same for all these years, they either weren’t noticeable or they didn’t stick out to me. Compared to all the extreme changes at Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland is pretty much like I remember it growing up with the exception of Disney’s California Adventure.
Although I can’t see myself, nor anyone else actually, purchasing a ticket just for California Adventures, as I don’t think there is enough there to do to call it a standalone park, I do have fun jumping back and forth between both parks.
At Disney’s California Adventure, I really enjoy California Screamin’, The Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, and Soarin’ Over California. They also have a pretty cool show at California Adventures called “It’s Tough to be a Bug”, shown in 3D. I didn’t visit California Adventures this evening so I am unsure if any of the attractions I enjoy were closed. On past visits it is also fun to visit the Mission Tortilla Factory as well as the Bakery Tour. They give samples of both tortillas and sourdough bread.
I wanted to watch the fireworks before I left, however they moved the time up from 8:40pm to 9:30pm. While I was getting on the freeway returning home, I could see them going off in the distance. I will make sure I stick around next time for them, as I really enjoy them.
While running errands this afternoon, I noticed they had demolished and cleared the land that used to house the Fontana Branch Library.
As a teenager, not only did I hang out there to use the computer when the home computer was out of commission, I also used to volunteer there. I learned so many things there growing up. I spent quite a bit of time there working with a group of wonderful people.
Although the new library, which is a few blocks away and was definitely well needed, is a great place with great resources available as compared to the old building, it does feel kind of sad to see something gone that has played a big part in my life growing up.
I am curious to find out what plans the city has for the land in the future.
The last few days have been a mess for me. School started this week, and as I promised myself to take it easy this year, I did not. In addition to working two part time jobs, I am officially enrolled in 8 units, but I have another 4.5 units on my waitlist.
Wednesday morning I left the house at roughly 1:45am for work. After work, I reported to work on campus at roughly 10:00am. After getting off work on campus, I had a class from 7:00pm until 9:00pm (actually the class is over at 10:00pm, however, the professor let us out early). Needless to say I was away from home from 1:45am until roughly 9:15pm. What a day!
My overloaded schedule has started again, for yet another term. I spent most of Thursday and Friday recovering. When I do that to myself, I often find it takes a little time to unwind… which is not good either. Although my goal was to post to my blog daily, not only did I fail with that, I failed to get my homework done. It is not due until Tuesday, so I am still in good shape. I will get it done over the weekend.
I had a doctor’s appointment today, and to make a long story short, I was in big trouble with the doctor. She, as she always has, told me that it really is time to slow down and not work full time and go to school full time. She wants to know why I put so much on my plate, and that is an answer I can’t honestly answer. I do, however, enjoy keeping myself busy and out of trouble.
Until next time…
Today was my first day back in school. Unlike the last year, this time around my plate isn’t so heavy. Although I am having buyer’s remorse for not filling it up, I guess it will make for nice change.
I still have both of my jobs, on and off campus, and I promised myself this year I would slow down. I guess if I ended up filling up my plate too much, I would miss out on using my Disneyland and Knott’s passes that I have for the year.
I am really looking forward to this term… I hope it is a good one and I fly through it with minimal problems.
Off to get started on my homework… Wish me luck… Until tomorrow…
P.S.: I feel like I am cheating considering this is the smallest post I have ever written, however, it does meet my objective of a post a day. Depending on my work load, I may have to sneak a few of these tiny posts’ in here. Not too many though…
At a time of uncertainty, when everyone is looking to blame someone for something, it is not only refreshing, but such a great feeling, to read and hear about Congresswoman Giffords daily improvements… A true miracle!
I am so happy for her, as well as her family, friends, and staff. The way she is doing, there is no doubt she will be back in Washington, doing what she loves so much, in no time.
I continue to wish her a speedy recovery!
