I am currently employed full time and attending school full time. My current education objective is an Associate's in Political Science. My current major is Law.
It has been a painful and draining 20 months, but finally, on December 18, 2012, Andrews was convicted of first degree murder, robbery, and assault with semiautomatic rifle on a person. He was also convicted of three special allegations, which were using a firearm during the commission of a crime.
On Thursday, January 17, 2013, we were in court for the last time… to learn what the court would hand down for his sentencing. Before sentencing, we had the opportunity to speak to him and the court. Below is the statement from his mother and myself. His sister’s statement will be added shortly, should she choose for it to be posted.
Statement made by Elsa Huizar, Joshua’s mother, posted with her permission:
On April 10, 2011, my son Joshua was murdered by Dalray Andrews. It has been a nightmare for me… one that I live over and over again and can’t seem to wake up from. His selfish actions and disregard for my son’s life have left me with such emptiness in my heart that it is often even hard for me to get up every morning. He has no idea what he took from me and my family, and I honestly don’t believe he even cares nor understands. We have been coming here to court for close to two years now, and I have not once seen any type of remorse coming from him. In fact, I have often seen him laughing or giggling with the occasional family member or friend that shows up in court in support of him.
I miss my son, my only son, so much it is difficult to describe. Although I hope one doesn’t have to experience what I have gone through, I believe it is truly the only way one would only understand it.
I believe that his time will come, when he must stand before God and explain his actions. Until then, I ask that the court give him the harshest sentence as permitted by law. He deserves nothing less and the people in our community deserve the right to sleep better at night knowing that he isn’t on the streets, waiting for to harm his next victim.
Statement made by Frank Barrera Jr:
These last few years, have been nothing but a living hell all those that loved Joshua Michael Huizar. A hell that we hope soon, you come to realize yourself.
We did not choose to take this path in life. This path was chosen for us. You chose, to put us in this situation by taking the life of our son, brother, grandson, uncle, and nephew, Joshua.
I have tried to find justification for your actions, perhaps your upbringing, or lack thereof, however, I can’t seem to find one that can explain why you did what you did. We, as people, have many rights, freedoms, and responsibilities. Some of us are born with nothing, and make the best out of life, often become successful. Some of us have everything, and simply choose to throw it all away. I am unsure what category you fall into, however, you, and only, chose to throw everything away, selfishly, and for no purpose other than your own, without regard to the effects on our family, let alone your family.
Part of life requires us all to make decisions, on a daily basis. On that early Sunday morning, April 10, 2011, you made several awful and painful decisions. You claim that this was a mere accident and whether it was or not, we will never know. As the old adage goes, action speaks louder than words. You, and you alone, made a decision to arm yourself with a loaded gun, and during your attempt to rob Joshua of anything you could get from him, you kept your finger on the trigger the whole time. It is hard to believe you couldn’t have expected anything other than death to come out of this.
Any family made to stand here before the court in our situation to speak about their loved one would obviously have nothing but good to say about them, regardless of their background. When we speak about Joshua, and the kind of person he was, we are speaking of how he truly was. After Joshua was murdered, people that we never even seen before that had known him had nothing but good to say about him, mostly in regards to how respectful he was as well as what a kind person he was. Joshua truly cared for people and the world has definitely been much different without him.
Since Joshua was a baby, he was always happy… always smiling… always full of life… I can’t remember, other than in times of illness, Joshua being fussy or tough. As a child growing up Joshua was also a good kid, stayed out of trouble, and minded his mother and those who cared for him. Joshua was his mother’s only son and up until the day he was brutally murdered, she did her best to keep him safe. Joshua, being a young man, albeit still a teenager would often get frustrated, that his mother wouldn’t even allow him to walk a few blocks home from the skate park after hanging out with friends. Joshua very much enjoyed skateboarding at the skate park and hanging out with his friends as much as he could, when of course, he wasn’t enjoying time with his girlfriend. It was just that Joshua wasn’t aware of the animals out there, animals like you… animals that don’t have any care or consideration for others, are willing to commit heinous crimes, and will stop at nothing until their sense of personal satisfaction is fulfilled.
Joshua started working full time at FedEx and was looking forward to graduating from high school. You took away his life before it even began, before he had the opportunity to get married or have children, all of which, we will never get to see. In life, it is typically our children that bury us, however due to your selfishness and disregard for others, it was us, burying our child.
I hope that from the moment you awake every morning to the last thought in your mind before you fall asleep you think of nothing other than what you did to our family. As we aren’t as selfish as you are, we are considerate to the fact that you not only tore ours apart, you also tore yours apart. For your irreprehensible actions, you deserve to be called nothing more than an animal for what you did. You laid in wait to attack your victim… someone that went out with his girlfriend to grab a bite. Something I myself, have done so many times, at that very location, that I’ve lost count.
Just remember, at the end of the day, you have an address… an address to which your family, mother or daughter, can write or visit you.
You, however, have left us with nothing…
Dalray Kawane Andrews, after making a statement himself, apologizing for his actions and stating that he prays everyday for the family, was sentenced to 48 years to life in the California State Prison System. He will be eligible for parole at 70 years old. He will not be permitted to earn credit for good behavior.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 910 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Great read… that was my thinking last night. The Dems are going to throw Ryan’s budget around, threatening that it’ll cut benefits for seniors, however, they fail to admit how much money Obamacare takes from Medicare…

“It’s not surprising that Mitt Romney – the most secretive nominee in recent history – is once again siding against transparency and breaking his promise to ‘go back and look’ at additional tax returns to see if he ever paid less than his 2010 rate of 13.9%” Lis Smith, Obama’s Campaign Spokeswoman
Say what?? I’m confused… Romney, the most secretive nominee in recent history… you obviously haven’t included your boss and his broken promise of being a transparent president. Mr Romney should release his tax records only after Mr Obama releases his college transcipts. From what is being reported, it is beyond me how one would pay millions to hide this information. Mr Obama, a Harvard student, should be proud of his record and good grades, considering I am sure that was needed to secure a spot in such a great university.
(CNN) – Mitt Romney’s campaign said Monday they would not release any more of the candidate’s personal income tax information, despite an acknowledgement from Romney that he had been audited in the past.
“Mitt Romney has paid his taxes in full compliance with U.S. Law, and he has paid 100 percent of what he has owed,” Romney spokesman Ryan Williams wrote.
Williams later told CNN that “The audit did not result in a fine or penalty.”
In his original statement, Williams added, “As has previously been reported, in 2011, the Romneys will pay more than $3.2 million in taxes on $20.9 million in mostly investment income and will have donated more than $4 million to charity. In 2010, The Romneys paid more than $3 million in taxes on $21.6 million in mostly investment income and donated nearly $3 million to charity.”
Romney has disclosed his income tax returns from 2010…

Shouldn’t hurt the Romney ticket, who knew Obama?
(CNN) – Mitt Romney made his long-anticipated vice presidential announcement Saturday morning, naming U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate.
Polls show Americans are largely unsure of Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee. A CNN/ORC International survey taken August 7-8 showed 54% of those polled saying they didn’t know enough about Ryan to form an opinion. Twenty-seven percent said they viewed the Wisconsin congressman favorably and 19% viewed him unfavorably.

Last week, I was on a well needed vacation… although I have a great job, it is always good to get some time off once in a while. I made it a point, with the assistance of my supervisor, to book my time off for this year as it seems every year, I don’t take all the time I need off…
Last year, on a vacation week, I was scheduled for jury duty. No problem, I thought as I am never chosen. In fact, the group I am assigned to is normally never even selected. Well of course, being on vacation, that changed. I ended up spending my whole vacation week in court. They ended up cutting me on Thursday and I believe the reason was due to me having family in law enforcement. The defense attorney wasn’t so happy about that, however, I didn’t see a problem with it. A criminal is a criminal and if the evidence suggested he was guilty, then I vote for guilty.
This year, my vacation was taken away from me too, under different circumstances. Although I did get my much needed rest and relaxation, I did have other things planned that I wanted to work on and didn’t get them done.
Lulu, my sisters dog, was bitten by something. Everyone is thinking a spider, perhaps even a black widow, as she became extremely ill. She was running a high temperature, and extremely lethargic. It came to the point where I found it necessary to even hold her up just so that she could do her business. We took her to the vet and they had seen nothing like it before. She was getting these bumps on her, that would eventually pop, and when they did… it wasn’t very pretty. They were literally filled with infection and took a lot of work to drain them. They gave her a steroid shot and some antibiotics, which did the trick… for about 2 days. She then became ill again and has since plateaued.
Today, she is obviously sick, but doesn’t seem to be in any pain. The bumps are still there, in groups, however, they stopped growing to the point they are popping. She is still under veterinary care and is on two antibiotic medications. This evening, we found it necessary to give her some baby aspirin, which was recommended in just about every website we encountered on the subject. We also have her wrapped in a cool, damp cloth, which she is allowing us to do, which makes me think it must feel good.
Friday, they have her scheduled for surgery. They want to do a biopsy of the bumps. They had also taken blood and a stool sample from her, however at this point; I am unaware of the results. I am hoping, however, when it comes time for surgery she is doing much better as I am concerned in the state she is in now, something terrible can happen.

On this, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, we will never forget those who lost their lives by doing nothing more than showing up for work on that Tuesday morning.
We also must not forget all the service men and women who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for our continued freedom as well as to keep our country safe from further attacks.
